Elementary Science Methods 2: Week #14

Elementary Science Methods 2: Week #14

What did you do in the lab today?

  • On Monday, in the lab, we continued studying climate change and began by discussing our interview with an elder. Next, we studied the effects of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The activity we completed was the PhET Simulation, and you can see the conclusion we found below.

What was the big question?

  • How does Greenhouse gas levels impact temperature? What will happen if we continue to increase CO2?

What did you learn in Thursday's discussion?

  • In Thursday's discussion, we studied more about greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide. We studied some graphs that show the increases in carbon since the beginning of the earth. Next, we studied the effects of albedo when it reflects off certain surfaces and emits heat. We ended the lesson by talking about the snowball earth and how to have a better carbon footprint in life.

Pressbook:
  • What did you learn?
  • I learned about the different areas of the world and how they are impacted by climate change. For example, "July 2019 was the hottest month on record for the planet." Where some places are experiencing more heat, some are experiencing arctic melting of glaciers, which raises sea levels in the oceans.
  • What was most helpful?
  • I found the videos helpful visuals for myself! Specifically, global temperatures from 1970 to 2017 rising temperatures. The models help connect my learning and better be able to imagine what is actually happening.
  • What do you need more information on?
  • Nothing!

5. What Questions, concerns, or comments do you have?

  • None!
