Elementary Science Methods ll: Week #13
Elementary Science Methods 2: Week #13
What did you do in the lab today?
- On Monday, in the lab, we continued studying climate change's effects in Iowa. We looked at the data from student achievement scores in different subjects in the State of Iowa. We studied the difference between weather and climate. Our activity during this lab was an investigation we read five different articles and shared with the class the most important factors we learned from the article. Many things we found from the articles included information that showed the effects of global warming on outdoor workers, livestock, and meat production in the state.
What was the big question?
- How do we know that the Goldfinch is in danger in Iowa?
What did you learn in Thursday's discussion?
- In Thursday's discussion, we examined a graph from a source claiming that 'global warming is not an issue.' We looked at the data and concluded it was inaccurate because of inaccurate data and the lack of knowledge in this area from the author who supported the data. We studied different land masses of the earth using the acronyms LOWER latitude, ocean current, wind and air mass, elevation, and relief. Lastly, we studied the Paris Agreement, which is an international treaty for climate change.
- What did you learn?
- I learned the key differences between weather and climate. Weather is a short-term description of what is happening that day. For example, "it's sunny" or "it's raining." The climate is the usual weather patterns you see in a specific area. For example, Florida is hot and humid.
- What was most helpful?
- The examples of the differences between the two terms climate and weather. I found the acronym L.O.W.E.R. helpful as well!
- What do you need more information on?
- Nothing!
5. What Questions, concerns, or comments do you have?
- None!
